1. inflation- a drastic drop in the value of money coupled with a rise in prices
mercenary- foreign soldiers recruited by the government to fight for money
Diocletian- strong-willed army leader
Constantinople- city named after Constantine
Attila-powerful chieftain

3. The main internal causes of the fall of the Roman Empire were inflation, agriculture problems, and the disarray of the military due to the mercenaries' lack of discipline and loyalty.

4. Diocletian succeeded by ruling with an "iron fist" and fixing Rome's problems. He split the Roman empire in half and ruled the Eastern part. Diocletian also doubled the size of the Roman army.


5. The Germans invaded the Roman Empire because the Huns were invading the Germans and destroying everything so they fled.
