Will the United States fall like the Roman Empire ?

 The Roman Empire and the United States have many similarities. Roman leaders related to George Washington with their ideals and leadership. The Congress is like the wealthy in Roman times. Both societies attempted to establish checks and balances to avoid giving too government power to one person. The Romans replaced their king who served for life with a system of two consuls elected by citizens. America’s created the executive, legislative, and judicial branches to take away potential abuse of power. With these similarities in mind, the question of whether America will follow in Rome's footsteps in present. I don't think it will. A big difference in today's society versus Ancient Rome is technology.  Rome’s entire existence was in an age where tools and weapons were primarily of metal iron. The society was agrarian and the political system was simple. The Romans adopted technologies from their territories and they were heavily dependent on their imports. On the other hand, America started in the "Industrial Age", then to the "Information Age", and is now a leader of the "Biotech Age". Some scientists believe that technological advances will create large advantages in the struggles a nation faces. Modern technology is big difference between Ancient Rome and America that must be taken into consideration before deciding whether the US will follow in Rome's footsteps.

Today, Mr. Schick got a laser pointer. He was so excited about it that he would not stay on one slide for more than 5 seconds. Eventually, he calmed down and we were able to take some notes. After we finished the powerpoint, we spent the rest of the class blogging. It was a pretty easy day. I have a pressing question on my mind. How and when did so many languages originate??? I do not understand how people can come together and form a language that becomes so widespread. It stresses me out just to think about this. There is no real answer.

We watched more of the video today. Some of the answers to the questions we were asking were answered. The answers were too simple. The progress of nation partly depends on geographic luck but that is not the whole answer. Another part of it is animals. We have domesticated many animals to help with work, food, and agriculture. New Guineans only have pigs. Pigs are not very useful when it comes to helping out with land. Other animals in New Guinea are very hard to domesticate. Such as, zebras. Zebras would be ideal, but since they are constantly in a predatory environment, they are violent and skittish. They have a mean streak that would be very difficult to tame.

Today we are working on questions in the text and then a powerpoint for the second half of class. We held a class tally on whether we should have our computers open or not. I voted computers because I would much rather type my textbook answers somewhere than write them down. I hate the length of small notebook paper and I would rather type them. The vote was 11 to 10 so it was very close. 1st half of class 1. Renaissance- was a period in European history from 1300 to 1600 where a new interest in culture led to changes in art, learning, and views of the world Humanism- is an intellectual movement that focused on human potential and achievements Secular- means worldly rather than spiritual and concerned with the here and now Patrons- are people who financially support artists Perspective- an art technique that shows three dimensions on a flat surface.
